Album Notes

Dawnya Clarine Bio (Dawnya is pronounced like Tonya with a D – Don-ya.)

In Dawnya Clarine’s new release, Walking on Water, you won’t find profanity, no powerhouse Aretha pipes, and don’t expect a thumping dance beat.

What you will find are clever lyrics paired with catchy musical hooks. You can expect a vocalist whose power is in her own depth and understanding.

You will hear the work of world class musicians who are yet undiscovered around the globe but are the gems of their little North Idaho town – Mike Thompson (guitar), Chris Lynch (keyboards), Mitchell Fullerton (bass), Bob Staggs (drums), and Tom Fears (percussion).

“For Walking On Water, I set out to write songs that are respectful, thoughtful, and that feel good in the soul,” says Dawnya. “This album is for everyone who is hungry for songs that take a look at the good … at least the potential for good in life.”

Dawnya shares important stories through a voice that sounds twenty-something fresh. Blues, pop, soul, and jazz weave their way through songs that come from the positive side of the street. Like a subliminal message, she becomes a part of you, but in this case you’re better off for it.

Dawnya has been compared to an eclectic group of singers: Natalie Merchant, Sara Bareilles, Jack Johnson, Annie Lennox, Norah Jones, the Cowboy Junkies and others. We think the smooth, laid-back style is all her own.

Originally from California, she has performed with groups and as a solo artist across the country for more than 20 years. She opened for some top acts including Tower of Power and The 5th Dimension, has appeared twice on the Easter Seals telethon, was headline act at the Heartland BrewFest in Des Moines, Iowa, and has entertained at multitudes of gigs in Minnesota, Iowa, California, and Idaho.

Release of Walking On Water comes after raising three sons (two with Asperger’s Syndrome, a form of Autism), and a career in advertising, communications and film production.

Here’s what Dawnya’s fans are saying:

Betsy, 32, Barnes and Noble Music Manager, Spokane Valley – “I love this CD! It is perfect for our customers. I can’t wait to have Dawnya play live in my store.”

JoAnn Boldt, 55, St Paul – “There is so much depth to this singer and her songs. Every time I listen to her CD I feel better.”

Ray Ebert, 37, Des Moines – “After a long day at work, I pop in my Dawnya CD. She helps me unwind”

Diane Michaels, 50, Music Director 95.3 KPND AAA Radio - “There is something here for every adult listener. Great lyrics, smooth style, and a unique voice (which I appreciate in this day of dozens of sound-alikes). I can’t stop singing Walking on Water!”

Travis Icardo, 31, Sandpoint - “Have some friends over, pop a cork, and pop Dawnya on the player. The perfect evening.”
