Dawn's alluring vocals combined with the energetic rhythm section create fresh interpretations of jazz standards. The thirteen tracks on the album reflect the many musical influences on Dawn and Cory, from their jazz arrangements of classical songs by Fauré and Weill to Broadway tunes by Coleman and Loesser and old favorites by Ellington and Gershwin. All of the performers on the CD have been classically trained, but have continued to play jazz because of their love of the music and belief in the sustainability of the genre. Cory is also an award-winning composer who used his expertise to write the original song, “Recurrence,” and also author exciting band and vocal arrangements. Another bonus is the appearance of guest vocalists like Tim Smith, who has had his own success as a jazz singer, and the members of the vocal jazz group Corner Pocket, who are quickly gaining notoriety in the Southern California area for their seamless choral blend and entertaining live concerts. “Got a Little Rhythm” is the culmination of many years of live performances and demonstrates the versatility of these seasoned performers.
