Saxophonist David Borgo has been performing jazz and improvised music for over 20 years. He won the 1994 International John Coltrane Competition and has toured throughout Europe, Asia, Latin America, and the United States. He currently is the Director of Jazz at the University of California, San Diego.

Reviews of With and Against:

"There's a lot of Dexter Gordon and Wayne Shorter in Borgo's generally warm sound, along with [Sam] Rivers and the inevitable influence of John Coltrane. In other words, another modernist with a large record collection, big ears, and like-minded colleagues."
-- Stuart Kremsky, Cadence

"He's got a melodic flair, yet is not afraid of stepping out a bit and blowing some hard edged harmonics on tenor ... There's a wonderful energy running throughout ... This is great music played with passion by great players. Highly recommended."
-- Michael Bettine, Jazz Now Magazine

This is a fantastic CD. I was thrilled to receive a double set with one of them being live.. since we know that jazz is so much better live.......it just extended the listening pleasure of this artist. This is a must for any serious collector of good jazz.
