Album Notes

NOTE: This is our 2006 debut EP. Our sound has grown a lot since then, and the new album, due out in March 2009, is a significantly advance from our first release. We're heavier, more melodic, and more progressive now, and a few band members changed over the past few years. Listen to this EP to hear where we came from, but check out the new album to find out where we've finally arrived. It's worth the journey.

--------------

Probably the most misunderstood label you can slap on a rock band today is to call them progressive rock. So many people have such widely varied opinions of what the description means that almost nobody thinks of the same thing when they hear it! But Days Before Tomorrow certainly fit their own description of this label.

When DBT think of progressive rock, the old bands that come to mind include Yes, Rush, Pink Floyd, Genesis, Marillion, and The Police, while the newer bands they think of include Porcupine Tree, Dream Theater, Coheed & Cambria, and Muse. Somewhere in the midst of bands like all of these is where you’ll find DBT – a nod to the past, but with a sound for tomorrow.

At a minimum, great progressive rock features outstanding musicianship that inspires other musicians and songwriters, has a strong vocal identity, and has songs that take the listener on a journey from the beginning of the first track all the way through to the end of the album. Themes are often present throughout an album, and many songs stretch beyond radio’s preferred three-minutes-or-under format. At its best, great progressive rock incorporates the elements above but presents them in a way that is accessible to the average, mainstream, rock and pop music listener.

Days Before Tomorrow delivers on all fronts: music that appeals to serious music lovers who are tired of the same old boring radio fare, while also delivering music that casual listeners can latch onto and sing along with.

REVIEWS

Modern rock with cool 80s influences

The DBT EP has three very cool tracks that all had a little different mood to them, but still sounded like one cool band. The opening track Can't Do Anything was sort of electronic-ish with a Depeche Mode flavor, but heavy guitars, and the singer is more of a 'real' singer than any alt/new wave singer. The next track, Wrong, reminded me of U2's 'Bad' or 'A Sort of Homecoming' a little bit -- cool delays on the guitars. The last track, Your Kate, had a cool groove, heavy guitars that reminded me a little of FNM, and great lyrics. Actually, all the lyrics were pretty cool. My only complaint is that there are only three tracks here and that we have to wait for their full length CD to hear more.
