Album Notes

Deadhead Roses is an experimental rock band from Southern California that is founded and operated by Dylan Neal who uses the name as a conduit for his music. He performs, records, programs, and writes everything by himself and shakingly aims to create a sound that will hopefully separate himself and the listener from the mundane musical plague.

It is the act of removing the dead and dying pedals from a flower in order to make room for the new, much like the dead layers of the ego that we must peel away to let the new blossom.. so, in 2008, Dylan (aka Lord Dyldo), who's sentience was slowly drifting to sleep, decided it was time to shake it awake by writing an album. He did, and it leaped out from his chest like an escaped mental patient from the 13th floor of your life. A year later, in 2009, Dylan (aka Dyldonics) was accused by the UN of harboring sonic weapons of mass destruction but they soon realized after close inspection that it was simply the finished album, Zastruga, now available.

Close your eyes and listen. A mind in torpor is a frightening state of being; let this be your wake-up call.

Dylan Neal has come up with not only an entire album of experimental rock sounds, but a riveting, sensual experience. The dimensions Neal's lyrics reach are unlike any other artist I've encountered: peaceful yet brooding at the same time. As a rock band, it is almost a guarentee that the crash cymbals are going to ring at the right moments, and the kick drum will run a standard 2/4 beat with a few good fills, however the Deadhead Roses have truly run with the 'experimental' side by incorporating violin, cello, and other accompanying effects. The orchestral instruments prove to counteract the hot edginess of the rock to support the elegance and flow of the lyrics. Zastruga will not only be blasting twenty-four hours in your car, but it will create new perspectives on music and individuals alike.
