Album Notes

Part Kickapoo Indian and a descendant of Confederate General Jubal Early, Jon Deadwood was born and raised in Washington State's tiny, diehard, logging community of Castle Rock. The singer-songwriter founded Deadwood in 1999 after moving 120 miles north to Seattle.

After gigging for a year, word of the band's talent made its way through Seattle and by 2001, the band was opening for national touring acts and receiving radio airplay. Opting to forego the "record label game" entirely, Deadwood released the 10 song CD, Rendezvous, on their own in 2002 and carved a niche in Seattle's alternative country scene.

The current incarnation of Deadwood also features veteran steel guitar player Bob Knetzger, lead guitar-slinger Grady McDonald, vocalist Danielle Philippa, journeyman bassist Cosmo Ansonio, and drummer Nathanael Butler.

"Be on the lookout for a band called Deadwood. I stumbled into a place where the band was playing a couple of weeks ago, and was very impressed. They seem strongly rooted in the country music of the '70s, reminding me
at times of Waylon Jennings (especially those rolling, easy-going rhythms)." --- Don Slack, KEXP 90.3FM DJ, Seattle

A KILLER BAND WITH A UNIQUE SOUND!
author: J. Weidner/JCW Productions
There are all sorts of bands...Good ones; bad ones; mediocre; and the list goes on, but every now and then one comes along that seems to have ALL the necessary components to achieve stardom. To be truthful I was just browsing around when I came upon this band. I decided to give them a listen. I was spellbound from the first note to the last on all of the listenable selections. Wow! It seems that most of the bands here at Cdbaby are indies {independant labels, or unsigned by a major record label}. But the sound that this band showcases on this cd is every bit as PROFESSIONAL as any I've heard in my 30 years in the music business! These musicians are polished to a golden shine! The vocalist[s] croon like the old time greats of yesteryear! I can only imagine that the songs they are performing on this cd are original, and whomever wrote the songs is just as GIFTED as the performers! I have no idea how all these people got together; but it was either MAGIC or FATE, or a bit of both!?! But I plan to follow this band in their careers, and with any luck at all, they will be on the TOP OF THE HEAP in no time at all! I want to personally THANK this band for adding some pleasure to my otherwise MUNDANCE MONDAY! Keep on doing what you are doing, cause you are definitely doing it RIGHT! ..........J.
