ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Mike DeAngelis

Mike began playing Celtic Folk music in 1986, with childhood friend John Haggerty, in a four piece band called "The Porters". He had come home to Upstate New York after seven years of solo acoustic performing at pubs/restaurants in New Hampshire (UNH '84 Alumni) and Cape Cod, Massachusetts. After six years together performing songs by The Clancy Brothers, The Wolftones, Tommy Makem and other popular Celtic/Folk artists, Mike and John formed "Hair of the Dog" with another local musician, Rick Bedrosian (also with "The McKrells"). "Hair of the Dog" grew in popularity as they performed at festivals from Chicago and Cleveland to Pennsylvania and Boston. Five tours of Ireland and six CD's later, HOTD is still attracting fans of all ages. Mike wrote the title track from "Hair of the Dog's" latest release, "Let it Flow". Here, with the help of some great musicians from the east and west coasts, is his first solo CD, "Son of a Dunigan". Michael's Mom is a Dunigan, from Co. Mayo.
Thank you for listening and enjoy!

Genuine Joy
The ease with which this group of people play and sing together is what makes this such a good CD. Songs like Bartender Billy have such a smooth feel to them that you'll want to grab a pint and kick back in a comfy chair to catch the rest. There are a bunch of different musicians involved here, and the lyrics are good to boot. Most of the songs are written by DeAngelis, and he proves himself talented at doing so.

The CD isn't the thumping, pulsing traditional fare. Nor is it the pining, yearning fiddle you may figure is ever-present. You'll find other musical influences here, a little folk, a touch of rock and a hint of bluegrass. Through it all, however, you'll hear Celtic, although perhaps a little more mellow than you might be used to. It is a nice change and not so relaxing that you'll be yawning, just a bit contemplative. You get the feeling that these guys (and gals!) aren't worried about fitting in anywhere, they just want to play and have a good time. The genuineness of that feeling shines through, and it you can hear it. A nice listen all the way around.

A CD for all seasons
Warm and vibrant. Michael's version of From Galway to Graceland could be the hit that this song always should have been.

Soothing Sounds of the "Son of a Dunigan"
The "Son of a Dunigan" cd was obviously compiled from heart warming stories, touching songs, and soothing memories. However, the energy level of the artist and additional musicians make for a wonderful listening expierence. Although, most of the songs are Ballads, there are upbeat songs that get you dancing in your seat. A must have for any CD collector!
