Album Notes

For twenty five years Dean Stevens has
delighted audiences of all ages throughout the
Americas. An exuberant performer of distinctive
style and wit, he combines an intricate, self-taught
guitar style with a versatile and expressive
singing voice. He has established himself as
a formidable creator and interpreter of a
wide spectrum of songs in English and Spanish.
His own material explores a variety of personal
and social topics, paints sketches of people and
places, celebrates the Earth, and
annoys the narrow minded.

Born and raised in Costa Rica, Dean Stevens
is a lifelong student of Latin America. He
learned Spanish at an early age, and readily
absorbed the musical and topical influences
of the region. He travels frequently to
Central America, and has become known
for his humanitarian efforts on behalf of
refugees returning to their homes
in El Salvador and Guatemala.

Aptly titled, AT LAST we have another album from Dean Stevens! Every song is a delight, from Wood and Strings, a magical song about what/who goes into making guitars, to Stories, a heartwrenching song that reminds us that we're all connected to the struggles for peace and justice, this album is well worth the money. You'll want to buy a few extra copies for your friends and family.

This CD is wonderful. The first song "Wood and Strings" is an anthem to the acoustic guitar, and the song is recorded so well, with many tracks of well-tuned acoustic string instruments bouncing from speaker to speaker and filling your ears with joy. Maybe it's just because I'm a guitar player myself but this song says it all about why we love to play the guitar, and Dean is an amazing guitar player himself. Buy this CD just to try to figure out what his fingers are doing, and then listen again to what the songs are about. It's a warm, peaceful and inspiring recording.
