Death by Kite is the latest addition to the Quartermain family, an alternative, noisy rockband from Copenhagen. The bands three members met in autumn 2003, but it wasn’t until mid-2004 they started playing together regularly.
Since they came from fairly different musical backgrounds and genres, it took some time to find a sound which matched all three of them. But ultimately it was the differences that turned out to be the strength of the music, in which you can find reminiscences from bands such as Sonic Youth, Placebo, Siouxie and the Banshees,
Interpol, Joy Division etc, all this combined in the unique sound of the band, which sets it apart from most danish acts.
The main threads in the music are the popish melodies as well as the noise and the alternative harmonies. A tight-rope walk between cold war punk, noiserock and indie.
The self entitled debutalbum is a strong proof of how the 90’s shoegazer and indie scene can easyli be combined with the more progressive fuck you attitude of the punk scene.
The album contains 11 songs about depression, deception
and the curse of beeing in love. Supportet by a strong bass, tight hardbanging drums and a screaming guitar,
vocalist Bjorn screams out his frustrations on top.
The band has in a relatively short periode of time gained a lot of attention in Denmark. The album has received nothing but splendid reviews in the home country and the first single went into heavy rotation on national radio P3. The 2nd single went strait to No. 2 on the Danish, alternative chart and last but not least the band has been asked to play this year’s Roskilde festival.
