Album Notes

My fourth surf album. And finally, one that's well produced.

For the first time, Deathpod features more than just me (Phil) playing every instrument. Andrew Harwood played some great sax, and Dragan Rusic layed down some amazing Hammond organ. I even managed to snag my bandmates Roger Marin (pedal steel) and Matt Keighan (drums). I almost killed poor Matt, making him play the souped-up "Barn Burner."

It took almost a year of recording, mixing, re-mixing, and dragging a monstrously heavy Hammond L-100 and Leslie cabinet down some narrow steps, but I'd gladly do it again in a heartbeat, and probably will again very soon.

As close to a perfect album as I've ever listened to

This album singlehandedly reignited my love of surf music. It's flashy and bombastic, and flat-out awesome. This is as close to a perfect album as I've personally ever heard. Each of the tracks is a little different, but they are totally cohesive together. It's an album that manages to be totally heavy, but, if it was played at a party, then everyone would put on a smile and dance. Truly perfect guitar and a percussion section that knows its place are the two things that make this album. Honestly, I'd love to hear a live album that has extended jams. Mindblowing stuff, and, if you haven't bought it yet, do it!
