____

Debby Dobbins delivers a haunting vocal that evokes the romance, mystery and beauty of legendary Baghdad. Against the background of todays chaos, the song implies longing for what once was, and hope for what could be.

Debby Dobbins first caught the attention of Spirit Records when she was lighting up the Charlotte jazz circuit, packing the clubs, and sharing the stage with such notables as the late and legendary Dizzy Gillespie. A singer much in demand, she one day sang a background vocal session for an early Spirit demo, and soon became the label's featured female vocalist. She scored a string of regional pop/R&B hits for the label, ultimately going to Hollywood and a Star Search national TV performance of her hit single "Can't Help This Feelin'". Her first Spirit single "How You Gonna' Feel" remains a southeastern US and UK northern soul classic.

"A Starry Night In Baghdad" is Debby Dobbins at her best, as she finds the perfect vocal "sweet-spot" for this song.

All of her past Spirit singles are available on the CD "Carolina Soul: The Spirit Records Anthology" (link at left of page) and also iTunes.
