Album Notes

An accordian played in the town square of Highland, Illinois and inspired the melody for Mississippi Gold. Home grown, Debby developed the lyrics and refined the melody while traveling the river roads of Missouri and Illinois. Awed by the barges, steamship, paddlewheels of Hannibal, Quincy, Alton, St. Louis and Ste. Genevieve, she wanted to tell the story of historic Valmeyer, Illinois, the little river town that was destroyed by the Mighty Mississippi River. When river folk work together, a New Valmeyer is born to become a beacon on the hill.

I lived down on the mississippi in Hannibal MO and I will tell you I was there in 1972 when the Mississippi overflowed it's banks. I remember when it happened 1993 too. Only this time I was living in Indiana. This song is a great tribute. The album is fantastic I rate it 5 stars. Debby really know how to express her feelings in a song.
