The best "unknown" artists I've ever heard-------probably won't stay unknown for long. Really beautiful voice and album.

Authentic

The first time I heard Deb Harley sing was in a funky little beach bar in Mexico (my own) when just for fun she picked up our sheety little $50 guitar with plastic strings, a warped neck, and only a drunk on bongos for backup. Her singing turned heads, because it was apparent to everyone that they were in the presence of real talent. So when I heard this disc, the first thing that struck me was the fullness & quality of the sound production. Amazing what a difference good instruments, real musicians on backup, and professional studio sound makes. The only thing I might add would be the drunk on bongos and possibly to go a little heavier on the cowbell. ;-)
But seriously, 5 stars to this collection of 'authentic' songs which harkens back to the days before artists paid more attention to how the video will look than to the underlying music itself. This album is the antithesis of the formulaic sameness we've come to tolerate in this video age. And as a result one thing is clear - Deb Harley likely will never be a "Recording Star" because you just can't categorize her music. This album could have been titled "Spectrum" - one minute you're visualizing a sultry seductress in a Chicago Jazz Club, next it's a twangy Abilene honkey tonk, then a ballad in a trendy coffeehouse, or reminiscing by the lakeshore in the heartland, and on to a Manhattan Supper Club. And she has that rare voice that fits each style like a glove - from folk to country, up-tempo to lullaby, sassy to sentimental, with a voice you could never tire of. Sit back & enjoy as Deb Harley bares her "flung wide open" heart & soul, and be prepared for a nostalgic journey of introspection into your own past, present & future.

I just finished listening to this CD and had to do it three times. The words, music, vocals, arrangements, mixing and instruments are all great, which is not nearly saying enough! Whether by yourself or with a crowd, it's sometimes a toe-tapper and sometimes soulful. In fact, if Cowgirl gets noticed, it is definitely destined to cause a whole lotta hoopin' and hollerin' at parties and clubs.
