"The impressive full-length debut by Bay Area songwriter Deborah Crooks, backed here by a full electric band playing a mix of mostly pensive, slow-to-midtempo rock with subtlety and good taste."

"Wonderful work...."-Don Campau, KKUP
A life-long writer, Deborah's lyric-driven and soul-wise music has drawn comparison to Lucinda Williams, Chrissie Hynde and Natalie Merchant. Having performed at the RockerGirl Convention, Harmony Festival, during SXSW and internationally, her work is informed by world travel, Buddhism, concern for environment and a dedication to the process of liberation.
Featuring 11 original tracks, "Adding Water to the Ashes" was produced, engineered and mixed by Ben Bernstein, and features a host of great musicians including Alex Walsh (guitar), Art Khu (guitar, piano, organ), Ben Bernstein (bass), Dave Tweedie (drums), Eamon Ryland (acoustic & electric guitar, lap steel, resonator), Yoon Ki Chai (violin) as well as members of The Whoreshoes.

A great step up!

I've seen Deborah Crooks live many times, mostly acoustic, and it's great to hear her in this lush, produced setting. Country-tinged and folksy, the music is moody and sometimes melancholic, sung with Deborah's voice that has a little bit of great, personal raspiness to it. A great CD for when you're on the road or just lounging at home!
