ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
When writing music, I tend to think visually or with some kind of script in mind. While some of the pieces on "Phases of Light" (and the earlier "strata" and "Sequin Sea") are pure music based on patterns and musical idioms, most tell a story or evoke a scene. Tying them all together is the lever harp, a most versatile instrument for many types of music! The music ranges from simple evocative tunes for solo harp to complex, layered pieces using a variety of instruments and effects. All reflect my interests in literature, archaeology, astronomy, hiking and a variety of musical forms.
Since there is a definite visual component to my music, I have also created a series of graphic art works paired with many of the pieces on my albums. Some of these images can be viewed at http://www.harpymusic.com/phases_of_light.htm.
