Dee Alexander is one of Chicago’s hidden treasures. Known as a “musician’s musician” she’s capable of tuning her instrument in a myriad of ways. This project is comprised of a mixture of jazz standards, improvisation, and original songs written that her mentor, “Light” Henry Huff, the Chicago saxophonist had written for her before he passed away several years ago. She is joined by Tomeka Reid (cello), Leon Joyce, (drums-percussion), and Leon Q – trumpet. The Evolution Ensemble was recorded live at the Hyde Park Arts Center in Chicago and sponsored by the AACM (Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians). Dee Alexander was the recent recipient of 2007 Chicago of the Year and 2008 Chicago Music Awards – “Jazz Entertainer of the Year”.
