"Amazing," "Wow!" ?Oh, my God!" are just a few of the exclamations when people hear Deedee O’Malley's music.
Having grown up influenced by musicians such as James Taylor, Carol King and Joni Mitchell, Deedee touches audiences with her own style and viewpoints on life. Deedee’s music reaches the heart of an extremely diverse audience. Deedee’s fans come in all age groups. Her truly captivating voice and writing style enlighten listeners while being realistic enough to resonate with people’s everyday lives.
The most difficult thing to do is compare Deedee to other artists. She has been compared to Sarah McLachlan, Sheryl Crowe, Jewel and other female artists. Deedee has also been described as a female combination of James Taylor, Bruce Springsteen and Billy Joel!
Deedee has been writing songs since the age of 13. Her intelligent lyrics capture the hearts of so many people; and her contagious melodies linger on in the minds of her fans long after her performances have ended.
Deedee has a BFA in Theatre Arts from Hofstra University and has performed in over 60 musicals. While living in New York City, Deedee created one of the characters for the children’s show, Sneakers which is still running Off-Broadway after 10 years. She also wrote "Show Yourself" and "The Right Track Now;" two of the show’s most memorable songs.
Deedee began supporting herself in New York by singing jingles for clients like Avis Rent a Car, Heinz Ketchup, and IBM. Later, she sang background vocals for Patti LaBelle, Kenny Rogers, Willie Nelson, Jermaine Jackson and The Pointer Sisters.
As a songwriter, Deedee has created a library of hundreds of musical gems. She has so mastered the craft of songwriting that she now teaches classes and seminars on the subject, giving new songwriters a start on the basics and even helping veterans turn a good song into a chart-topping hit.
New York Girl is Deedee's latest solo album. Born and raised on Long Island and spending her first artistic years in Manhattan, this is her homage to New York!

hot cd for a hot artist
author: Mike Morgan
Deedee O’Malley nailed her new solo cd “New York Girl” with the meaning of true inspiration, vocal depth and quality sound. Somewhat nostalgic in that the style reminds me of the same used on her initial “Simple” cd. Except, “New York Girl” has an added flair of a Nordic and Celtic touch with a mix of blues and jazz which just can’t be mimicked. Deedee has always been recognized for her extensive involvement in the Indie music scene. Where many local bands tend to face hardship trying to book local shows, Deedee and her group Size7Hat are just the opposite.
A multi talented artist, voted as best singer/songwriter of the year 2001 by the L.A. Music Award, Deedee is well respected and recognized wherever she goes. “Follow Your Heart” is one of my personal favorites and I’m glad she finally did a fresh recording and placed it on this cd. Her title cut has that blues and jazzy touch which wants to make one grab a cup of coffee, kick back and enjoy the sounds blending smoothly with her voice as it tells the story of strife in moving across country and yet not losing the inner you, in wanting to just go back home.
Cuts like “Someone” and “Love for Being Right” have a folk blend where another great cut “Me Myself and I Day” is a perfect pick me up song to liven one’s day. “Frame, “Giant Bite” and “No Greater Gift” has an element of warmth and love with a touch of Carole King. The point I see Deedee trying to make in “Giant Bite” is don’t let your life pass you by and don’t take things for granted. Live each day to the fullest extent and accomplish all that you do. The opening cut “Puddles” tells of a maturity one gains in looking back in time at the wisdom had as a youth and using it in today’s time in dealing with all the pressures and stress. You just want to leave it all behind. The closing track “Out of Control” goes through the anguish and pain what one goes through, whatever the problem is they face in struggling and coping. A total of 15 fulfilling tracks, this cd will just leave you wanting more.
