Deep Cricket Night is a four cornered, pearly moonlight serenade unfurled headlong into dawn with Beggar’s Banquet in your ride, Townes Van Zandt at your side, and an original melodic moan comprised of Lance Drake (gtr/vocals), Joey Werner (drums/vocals), Ciaran Cooper (percussion/vocals), Philip Alley (guitar/mandolin/vocals), and Aaron Spelbring (bass/dobro/lap steel). Musically, they build their unique sound with an instrumentation and beat that is sometimes haunting, often driving, and always eclectic. Lyrically, they have something to say and use pop, rock, blues, country, and folk interchangeably to turn on minds not reserved for the run of the mill.
Geraldine Haas performed all cello parts on the album.

Deep Cricket Night's Honeymoon Tattoo is a concise document spelled out with low-slung moodiness and a delightfully crooked sense of melody. The slightest country twang encroaches upon the faint folk-rock rustle of "White Light Horses." The Middle-Eastern ambience present in the percussion and plucking on "Is This It?" is a surprising, even jarring juxtaposition, nestled next to the keening cello in "Oh Yeah." Lane Drake's withering vocals cut through the mix with the right touch of sawn-edge rawness, giving the album an emotional foundation and sonic anchor. (www.deepcricketnight.com)

I heard this band in a gallery in Chicago one crisp fall night and their sound stayed with me. At their best primal, urgent without some of the bs posing, and beautifully melodic when they choose.

This is a really well produced CD! I wish more indy bands took the time to work out their sound like this. You can hear that they're hittin' this live in parts, and I suspect there was some improv in the studio too. The mix of hard-pushin' tunes like "Honeymoon" and "Oh Yeah" along with more gypsy vibe ones like "Is This It" is just great, and "Song on The Door" is a knockout.
