Album Notes

Radio is not ready for this band. Deep Rising started out as a recording experiment between Glenn (guitar) and Nick (vocals, keyboards). Each had a different style of writing, Glenn being a hard rocker and Nick being a bit dreamier. When they got together, the combination of their styles proved to be magical. Completely inspired by this, they began writing what would become their 1st CD, Time Spiral Soldiers and gave the project the name Deep Rising. Local NY radio station WBAB had a program called Homegrown where they play a song from a different local artist each weeknight. Deep Rising submitted their CD to WBAB and wound up as the featured artist on Homegrown for an unprecedented full week. They realized that they needed to turn the 2 man project into a full fledged rock band and sought out a drummer and bass player.

Once the band was together they did what came naturally: started writing material for their next CD. Midway through their 1st drummer left the band for a career in theater. While the search for a good drummer dragged on, the rest of the band continued to write songs. With a great new drummer on board Deep Rising completed recording their latest CD, Shards.

Fourteen songs long, Shards is a tour de force of the rock genre. Deep Rising is not singular regarding song moods. They don't write all pissed-off songs, or all sad songs, or all happy songs. Their approach is more honest than that. They've written some angry songs... when they were pissed-off. They've written upbeat songs too... when they were feeling happy. People feel all these emotions, and Deep Rising's music reflects that. It's that honesty with the songs that makes their music reach in and touch a listener's soul. Amazingly, Deep Rising manages to maintain their signature throughout. Every song, heavy, mellow, dreamy, whatever, definitely has that Deep Rising sound.

On stage, Deep Rising delivers all the power of their recordings and then some. This is no studio band. Deep Rising feeds off the energy of their audience to deliver electrifying performances. It's not uncommon for 1st timers to a Deep Rising show to ask the band, What is a band like this doing in a place like this?! Radio may not be ready for them, but if you've read this far, you are.
