Album Notes

Buy Great Music and Help Support The Deep Roots Music Project for Youth Now!!!

This CD marked the beginning of a Portland, Oregon tradition that matches local high school writers with professional musicians from the area. The students write lyrics, then learn about the recording process and the music business, as Portland's best musicians put their words to song.

Featuring impressive performances by Portland jazz greats Nancy King and Dan Balmer, this eclectic mix is sure to do the trick.

The project has taken off since that first year, in 1998. The students not only put out CD's these days, they often play and sing alongside the musicians. With the profits, the students also started a literary magazine and a great web site (deeproots.com).
