Album Notes

For over a decade, The Deep Roots Music Project has helped Portland, Oregon teen writers and local musicians collaborate to write songs and produce original music CDs. In 2008, for the very first time, Deep Roots teamed with Girls Inc. of NW Oregon and the generous sponsorship of Dr. Martens to create an all-girls edition of Deep Roots.

Musicians such as Liv Warfield, Stephanie Scheiderman, Morgan Grace, Kate Mann, Tahoe Jackson, Marisa Anderson, Gretchen Mitchell, and Rasheeda Ameera volunteered their time to teach lessons about songwriting to these young female writers. Inspired, the girls put the new ideas and skills to use and wrote pages and pages of lyrics for the musicians to help shape into finished, recorded songs.

Girls Inc. girls also helped with cover artwork and graphics, visited the recording studio, and followed the project step-by-step, from concept to finished product. All proceeds go to pay operating costs for future Deep Roots recording projects.

It so fantastic to give these girls the self esteem they need to move forward in their lives. Thanks to all the artists and studio folks who made this happen. I have been giving away the cd's and buying more. You all are angels.
