Album Notes

"Deep Roots: The St Johns Poetry Sessions, Vol. 1" carries on the collaborative tradition of The Deep Roots Music Project (www.deeproots.com), which started as a desperate high school English teacher's attempt to engage his students in writing and poetry.

Teen writers pen the lyrics. The Portland music scene's best musicians perform the songs.

Since 1998, over 300 musicians have volunteered their time to bring young voices to life in over 200 recorded songs.

This edition includes great performances by Madgesdiq, Copacrescent, Redray Frazier, Jeremy Wilson, Keegan Smith, Geoff Byrd, Soul Plasma, Melao, Funk Shui, The Imprints, Silverhawk, Rollie Tussing, Barry Hampton, Ezra Holbrook, Michael Jodell, and more.

Each CD sale helps support this Portland tradition.
