Twenty year-old Kevin Merrill, who plays under the moniker "deerbourne", has achieved quite a bit within the just over two years he has been performing and recording his solo project. With two EPs under his belt, a song on a prominent compilation, and his debut album coming out, he has been working hard in the studio.
If the album release success doesn't raise your eye brows, maybe the 300+ shows within 5 national, coastal, and regional tours will. As well as playing all three days at the Baltimore art and music festival Artscape.
His mature songwriting and road-weary voice invoke a sense of melody and mood setting you would expect from a far more mature folk-soul singer/songwriter. Mixing the music stylings of americana and indie and using contemporary lyrics, gives a smooth transition for those who are just getting into folk/americana music, but not overly produced for the veteran anti-folk listener.
