ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
This is the NEW Solo CD from guitarist and singer/songwriter Alexandre de Guise.
A trendily designed Digipack with a golden Disc and a color 12-page booklet attached (Limited Edition).

Coming from Moscow Russia, Alexandre de Guise is internationally recognized as a brilliant and innovative Virtuoso Guitarist as well as a gifted Composer and Singer-Songwriter with a tasteful and individual approach. He works in variety of genres ranging from Early music and Classics to modern Rock/Pop, Folk, Blues, Hard'n'Heavy, Neo-Classic fusion and more, and collaborated with a plenty of established artists/bands and participated in a lot of projects in Europe and UK, credits including: • ex-Terence Trent D'Arby player Andy Whitmore (London, UK) • ex-Gorky Park singer Nickolai Noskov (Russia) • Vanessa Redgrave (London, UK) • Rock House (Germany) • Black Velvet (Germany) • Advice (Germany) • Never the Bride (London, UK) • The River Crows (Scotland, UK) • The Ringer (Scotland, UK) • Lyra Celtica (Scotland, UK)...oths.

Alexandre started out as a classical musician. Having begun studying music at the age of 4, he received profound education (Music School - Academy (Degree in Piano and Guitar) – University).

In 1994 participated in a Charity Project "International Artists Against Racism", led by British actress Vanessa Redgrave, along with some other leading musicians (Bono, Kris Kristofferson), theatre and TV stars from all over the world, visiting the cities of the former Yugoslavia (Zagreb, Belgrade, Split, Sarajevo), performing in Theatres, Concert Halls, Art Centres and Refugee camps. The visit had the full support of UNICEF.

In Spring of 2005 Alexandre de Guise was announced The Artist of the Month by MAKATO International Music Directory/Database/Web Search Engine(U.S.A.)and now is nominated for The Artist of The Year award.
Also, Alexandre is a VIP member of and a multiply freatured "Front page Artist" on MOSIQ.com – known as "Web’s best music professionals commune".

In May of 2005 Alexandre played a Solo Concert in Red Square – right by the Kremlin, the very heart of Moscow (invited by the Government of Russia). Such an opportunity is actually the Honour that only distinguished, world-renowned Artists are usually given. (Among those who have performed there lately were Paul McCartney, Elton John, Luciano Pavarotti, Dmitry Khvorostovski.)

The Current Project, the launch of which is marked with the New Solo CD, "Can't Be in Vain" (Digipack, Golden Disc Limited Edition) recently successfully released in Moscow Russia (Summer of 2005) along with Live Concert DVD titled "Live in Red Square, Moscow", is Alexandre’s FRESH VIEW upon contemporary Rock and Pop music and an innovative attempt to combine several music genres, while orienting on the Mainstream concept.
All songs on the Album were written, arranged and produced by Alexandre de Guise Lamarque. He himself owns all the Copyrights to the Album/production.

The Album is a collection of songs that, stylistically, is a stylish blend of AC Mainstream melodic Rock and a smart Pop with an influence from virtuoso Progressive Rock, infused with sophisticated air of New Age and Romantic vibe of Celtic Folk...And, of course, having a certain background and integrity of Classics. Often being related to as “Cinematography matching”. Soulful, romantic, uplifting and positively charged songs. It's Alexandre's Debut release in this direction. It has already received some really good press response and feedback and created quite a buzz in Music Industry circles. Now the Release is in stores Russia-wide, distributed by the cross-national Major Label "SOYUZ"(UNION).

There’s an International Compilation CD entitled "Best Rock Ballads of 2005" released in Moscow at the end of December (last year) on the Major Russian Label "Sound Mystery", featuring No 1 song "Fly, My Dove, Fly" from Alexandre de Guise’s latest Album and representing Alexandre on the CD front cover – it is already in stores Russia-wide.

(PRESS QOUTES):

"It is the work of an interesting and exceptional musician, equally talented as a performer and composer".
(The Moscow Times)

"The sound of Alexandre's productions is a beautiful blend of his voice, the words of his songs, and the instruments that all come together in a sound that epitomizes all of the various longings, emotions, and almost lonely, yet hopeful, feelings that we all have from time to time. It would be difficult for anyone to not identify some feeling, even if remote, of their own when listening to this Album."

(Laura Cochran – President of Old Miner Enterprise/Pine River Records, Nashville)

"AMAZINGLY beautiful, deeply lyrical, soulful and romantic songs...At the same time posessing the drive and energy of contemporary Rock. The music that touches the deep of your Soul and makes it sing. A truly "commercial" stuff, in the best meaning of this word!"

(Sean Rae - Radio Tay, Scotland)

bravo
This DVD deserves 5 stars. Beautiful guitar riffs, very personal lyrics, bagpipes and other thoughtful touches makes that performance unforgettable

Top Notch Producer - Virtuoso Guitarist - Excellent Song Craftsman!!
Guitar virtuoso, singer/songwriter/composer with international experience and credits. Versatile, top level profile in various music styles ranging from Early music and Classics to modern Pop/Rock, Blues, Hard'n'Heavy, Neo-Classic fusion and more.

This is his description and this just scrapes the surface. Over the last 20 years I have not only been an independent artist but I have always taken the time to recognize other independent artists who live for their music. Alexandre de Guise LaMarque is one of those artists. He is classically trained and has worked with the likes of Nickolai Noskov (Gorky Park) and Andy Whitmore (Terence Trent D’Arby) and has done session work across Eastern Europe. Did I mention that Alexandre hails from Russia?

December 24, 2005 marked the official release of Alexandre de Guise LaMarque’s CD, Can’t Be In Vain (Digipack Golden Limited Edition) in Moscow along with his live DVD entitled Live in Red Square, Moscow.

When I first heard this Russian virtuoso, I had stumbled onto his site by sheer chance. At the time the only music I could access were some incredible classical arrangements where the featured instrument was guitar. The release of his long awaited Can’t Be In Vain further proves the versatility of this Russian artist. I would best describe the musical genre of this disc as Adult Contemporary and light Progressive Rock with a touch of Celtic Folk.

I actually heard a preview from this CD earlier in the year and was pleasantly surprised to hear this ‘other side’ of Alexandre de Guise. The first cut Fly My Dove, Fly reminds me a bit of something Paul McCartney might have written at the time that, I felt, he was at his peak (late Beatles/ early Wings.) It had a somewhat emotional appeal. Later, when I actually received the disc, I took the time to analyze the music from a musical standpoint. (What do you expect? I’m a musician.) The full-length version of Fly My Dove, Fly clocks in at almost 8 minutes in length, but there is also a radio version that has been edited down to less than 4 minutes. Despite Alexandre’s mildly thick accent his vocal is very appealing and he is very articulate and I do prefer the 8 minute version of the song. The arrangement is awesome. Like the entire CD, this song is fully orchestrated with an array of instrumentation. There is so much detail. It’s almost hard to believe that an independent artist, on the kind of budget many of us have to work with, could produce a record like this.

It’s fairly common to see a single artist take all the credits for a project in the independent world but it is rare that the artist is actually adept in all those departments. Alexandre is an exception to the rule. There is no part that has not received careful attention by this artist. Other key songs on this disc are Love Will Remain and the song that contains the discs title, I Can Never Explain (Can’t Be In Vain). Although, I have to disagree with Alexandre because I think he explained it perfectly. It can’t be in vain.
