Album Notes

Growing from a trio into a powerful septet over the last three years, De La Buena has been electrifying audiences with their own brand of Afro-Cuban and Latin Jazz. The fruits of their labor have now produced a live album. This Live Album, "En Vivo y Directo", has been in the works for nearly 2 years starting with an unforgettable performance on Sept. 21, 2003 at the historic Jazz Estate, and book-ended by another magical Estate evening on March 3, 2005. Now, with the beauty of those two nights captured forever on tape, De La Buena explores the textures and rhythms of Latin musics of the Americas with roots planted firmly in Africa. De La Buena is: Cecilio Negron Jr. on congas, Julio Pabon on percussion, David Wake on keys, Andy Noble on bass, Andy Lopas on the traps set, Jesse Sheehan on tenor and soprano saxophone, and a terrific trumpet tandem consisting of Jamie Breiwick, a man with musical maturity well beyond his years, and fiery trumpeter Andy Neesley, making a stop through from New York's Manhattan School of Music. Ever wondered what would happen if that "old school" salsa sound of the late '70s came pulsating into the 21st century? Buy this album.

I was at Summerfest, and footsore. I heard music on the lake breeze. I was reminded of my own town, and the sophisticated music I can hear there. I bought this cd on the strength of de la buena's performance and I am satified with the recording. Play on guy's, Keep innovating and interpretating. I am now a fan.
