Del started playing music when he was 14 years old. He hand picked cotten to buy his first guitar from Sears. It took him a while to learn the chords because he had no way of taking any lesson where he lived nore could his folks afford to pay for any lessons. After he learned to play the guitar, his brother E.J. learn to play the steel guitar and also the accordian. They formed a band call the "Sunset Melody Boys" and They played in and around the Houston, Texas area. When the Korean war broke out, Del volunteered into the Air Force. While in the Air Force he played with several groups untill he ended up in Korea. While in the Air force Del got married to a wonderful gal from Penn. who died in any auto accident in 1962. They had two children, Daniel and Diana and about a year and half after his first wife died, he married his wonderful wife Ann. They have been married for 43 years. They had no children together but she helped Del to raise his two children.
After he got out of the Air Force, he quit music to raise his family. After he retired as a lineman from a power company in Houston, he and his wife moved to the country near Austin, Tx. He went back to playing music and he has played on a lot of oprys in this part of Texas, He has played in front of the Alamo on several occasions. Over ten years ago, Del and two friends of his (Bill Spiegel, Gorden Sides) started an Opry here in Lockhart, Texas on the forth Monday of every month. Del and his good friend Linda Hazelwood emcee the show. All the money raised by the show goes to the Lions club to pay for scholarship for local students. He also plays in several local nurseing-homes several times a month. His music has been a blessing to him because of the friends that he has made through music and he loves doing it.
He recorded this album in 1995 after much urging from his friends. He wrote the first three songs. The first two songs he dedicaded to his wife Ann and the third he dedicated to his first wife. The rest were written by friends of his. If you buy this album he hopes you enjoy it and he prays GOD blesses you. The album has two beautiful Gospels that were written by Leroy Selix
