A collection of songs entitled “BlueOwl Sings” contains a montage of original music so varied it defies being categorized. Native American flute underlining the call of a Red Tail Hawk is heard on the title song. D’Elle’s distinctive vocals along with oboe, 12-string guitar and unusual percussion instruments come together in a unique blend of styles. “Hurricane” is a stormy, up-tempo piece with a strong ‘Conga’ beat. “Faint Whispers” evokes a flavor of smooth and easy jazz musically, while the lyric (a poem written by Marie Shrum) is a poignant call of unrequited love. “Celebration Prayer” has been the musical centerpiece of many weddings and commitment ceremonies. “Stand in the Light” has the hard driving sound of a good ol’ gospel tune with a touch of Rock ‘n Roll. “Be Still” takes the listener to another place and time…you can almost feel the desert wind as you hear the distant tinkle of bells from a far off caravan. “We Are One” is a sing-along with a light country feel and a universal message. The Marimba on “Matter of Time” is accented beautifully by classical guitar masterfully played. “Over the Edge” is full of surprises both lyrically and musically, and “Dreamtime” is such a lush arrangement of layers it will take repeated listening to discover all of the subtle nuances. “There Are Those” will bring a smile to your face with the accompaniment of steel drums and guitars, transporting you to the islands with a message of hope and healing. The sensitive duet of Vibes and Grand Piano make “With Thee” both a love song and a prayer. “Sun Comin’ Up” is one of those songs you find yourself singing in the course of going about your day. People have been observed adding distinctive gestures while pantomiming the sunrise!
Although the music has a world-traveled flavor, the songs were written in the beautiful mountains of the Sierra. These are songs that hearken to the distant past as well as looking to the future and the global awakening clearly being experienced on the horizon. The words celebrate ‘Life Experience’ in all its myriad expressions and the music offers an excellent addition to the discerning listener’s library.
