notes
The Boston community was quick to make room for Kris Delmhorst when she first stepped on stage in 1995. Her first solo release, Appetite, fueled a grassroots explosion (to date she's sold 8,000 copies from the stage) which now has her selling out the Northeast's largest acoustic venues and playing over 150 shows a year to clubs, coffeehouses, theaters, and festivals throughout the USA.
Her creative efforts have earned her 3 nominations for Boston Music Awards, 1st place in the 2001 Telluride Troubadour Competition, a spot in Performing Songwriter Magazine's top 12 independent releases for 1999, and inclusion in a stack of Top 10 lists by DJ's from coast to coast.
Not bad for a Brooklyn girl who didn't pick up a guitar until after college. Although she grew up with "harmony in the bloodstream" and studied cello through high school, Kris laid down all thoughts of a musical future when she realized the constraints of the classical world weren't suited to her exploratory style. Years later, housebound with a sprained ankle in a Maine log cabin in midwinter, she turned back to music to keep her sanity. She found a fiddle and a guitar gathering dust in the attic, tuned them up, and hasn't looked back.
Kris is a musician's musician who makes a point of contributing to colleagues' careers as well as the world beyond the stage. When not on the road she finds time to sit in and record with the likes of Catie Curtis, Mary Gauthier, Jennifer Kimball, Jess Klein, Lori McKenna, and Peter Mulvey. She played fiddle in the local cult-favorite Vinal Avenue String Band and was an associate producer of the Respond compilation to support survivors of domestic abuse, which has earned over $100,000 for the cause and was named Album of the Year 1999 by Billboard Magazine.
Equipped with enormous creative reach, transcendent lyrics, and a great ability to connect with an audience, Kris Delmhorst has everything she needs for a long and illustrious musical journey. With the release of her second studio album, Five Stories (Catalyst 2001), she is out the door and on her way.

Another great story-teller.
author: Steve HewittAnother great story-teller. Kris has a wonderful voice, great musical arrangements and a blend of jazzy voicals with a hint of the Joni Mitchell sense of arrangements (early days).

Debut album from Boston-based singer/songwriter. Folky, while maintaining pop sensibility, this album is a must for fans of Shawn Colvin and Lucinda Williams. "Her writing is intelligent without being overly cute or clever... [she] seems to understand the secret to great writing is to take the universal and make it personal." - Performing Songwriter (5/99).
Hungry for more...
author: ORFAll the songs mean something to me...
Quite nice
author: Jarrod FischerReally a very good CD. Lovely guitar, good melodies, original lyrics. Won't blow your socks off, but quite enjoyable.
Singer/songwriter, and man can she ever do both...
author: Mark RoemerIt takes a certain caliber of songwriter to be able to carry the listener through an entire CD with the main ingredients of voice and acoustic guitar. At times accompanied by other instruments such as mandolin, viola, fiddle, drums and baritone ukulele, Delmhorst really shows off her amazing story telling skills on Appetite. On first listen, I was drawn in to her thoughtful and very, very real world, and held there, attention undivided for the entirety of this 11-songer. She sings the kind of songs that make you say, “hey, who said you could read my diary!?” It is not too often that a songwriter comes along and with blunt force honesty tells you stories from their/your own life all the while keeping a very fresh sense of humor.
you need this cd
author: Shosha CappsKris blew me away. I am a singersongwriter myself and I listen to lyrics more than anything else. That is what I do and that is what I see. I am expanding into music but lyrics are what grab me. She ABSOLUTELY FLOORED ME. She tells the truth - about my life, about her life, and probably about yours. Buy this cd.
