"Poolside," the Delta Devils first CD Release, features a blend of blues originals, swinging jump tunes, hot-footed R&B and sultry Brazilian samba that reflects the full musical flavor of Albuquerque's coolest blues band.
Recorded on the sly over the course of a few courtyard gigs at the Hilton, the fun, exciting sound on this CD represents a band finally breaking out of the clubs from the wrong side of the tracks and finding themselves thrust into the limelight for Albuquerque's uptown tastemakers.
You can hear the ferocity as the Devils rip into classics like "Messing with the Kid" and the soulful sounds of "Violent Love." Unexpected cover tunes, like Little Willie Littlefield's "Happy Pay Day" grace the disc as well. Perhaps the biggest surprise is the inclusion of the infectious original dance track "Pickemup Truck" which qualifies as a bona-fide R&B classic.
Adding a twist to the standard blues formula, the Devils set a distinctively Brazilian spin on a few numbers. The group succeeds in a seamless blending of Blues and Jazz, R&B and Samba, revealing a common musical legacy.
Built on a solid blues tradition, with sparkles of innovation and musical cross-pollination, "Poolside" is the disc with today's coolest blues tone.

If you liked early John Mayall, you will like this...
author: John in Windsor
Wow! This CD has an infectious sound reminiscent of John Mayall's "Slow Train Crawling Up a Hill." If you like that early '60s British blues sound, then this is for you. Packaging is clever and they even include a sticker for your guitar case. The only downside is poor sound production, and that's why I am withholding the last of what would have been a five star review. A more polished recording without inconsistant volume levels, hiss, bad mic placement, etc. would be on my wishlist for a followup CD by this wonderful band.
