notes

Southern fried, paisley jangle pop

From the Pop Gods on Mount Jangle directly to you comes Deluxe Leisure King: a two guitar, bass, and drums combo that's been compared to the Windbreakers, The db's and early REM and described as gutsy, rootsy, and wonderfully out of step. The end result is original tunes heavy on the hooks with a maximum dose of well thought out melody.

"...This is a solid album from start to finish, with lots of chiming guitars ... and a very strong likeness to the work of the mid-90s pop band Javelin Boot. That makes this one a keeper!" -- Eric Soreneson, Fufkin.com

"Fans of REM...early Elvis Costello, the Byrds, Badfinger...should love this group. There should always be a place for this kind of basic, never too serious rock/pop." -- Jess Marich, Shake Magazine

"Lots to like on the CD." -- Lee Elliot, anotherplanet.ca

"..think of early REM with the occasional 12 string nod to the Byrds." --Lawrence Specker, the Mobile Register

"I really enjoyed the disc from start to finish. Definitely, a great collection of jangle guitar pop tunes very, very enjoyable...Congrats for the
melodic sense." --Carlos Quintino, BangBang Radio

One of David Bash's Top 125 Albums of 2004!

"She's So Nervous" will be featured in the film "Bam Bam and Celeste" starring Margaret Cho, Alan Cumming, and Bruce Daniel. The film will premiere at the Toronto FIlm Festival.

  • A gem of a find...hard not to like!
    author: Andrew Price

Wasn't sure what to expect, but if you like melodic songs featuring jangly guitars, catchy lyrics, and some surprising chord changes...well, there's a lot to like here. As soon as I finished listening to it the first time, I wanted to listen to it again. HOPE YOU'RE LONELY is a song I'd have written myself for my ex if I had any talent!

  • R.E.M.-y, Replacements-y, Paul Weller-y great pop
    author: Atticus

I scooped this up after hearing a couple of cuts on Live365.com's jangle-pop station, and was happy to find that it was good to the last drop. "Todos" is excellent, as is "Zoomin' Around" and "Regular Joe." If you like Squeeze's old material - catchy pop with clever lyrics - you'll like this one.

  • A pleasant acquaintance.
    author: Jan Hvarfvenius

A few times in my life, I have gotten goose bumps the first time I listened to a song, and Todos on this CD is one of those. The rest of the CD does not reach the height of this first song, I think, but is still very pleasant. The influences are very Beatles-esque, with a few hints of The Band and some not so few hints of country. This, together with some nice jangly guitars, makes this an enjoyable CD.
