CHARLES DAVID DENLER
biography

Charles David Denler's EMMY award-winning music can be heard all over the world on programs such as National Geographic, STARZ! Encore Television, History Channel, and PBS.
As an instrumentalist, Charles began playing trumpet at age nine. He wrote his first original composition within a few months of learning to play. Charles then taught himself to play piano at age eleven. He began composing for piano and playing in public the same year.
Charles began his career in 1984 after studying at the Berklee School of Music in Boston, Massachusetts. As a recording artist, he released eight albums and worked with a number of leading producers in the industry. Playing at venues from local coffeehouses to large concert halls, such as the Buena Performing Arts Center in Arizona to the Bushnell Theater in Connecticut, Charles has drawn crowds of thousands.
After being asked to write music for three National Geographic films, Charles fell in love with the art of the film score. He has since written music for many documentaries, films, and television programs, including the main theme music for the new STARZ! Kids television network, music for Animal Planet, HDnet, and many independent films. He is also a sought after speaker, leading film composition workshops at festivals, such as The International Wildlife Film Festival in Missoula, Montana, and giving seminars on ancient music. His music and production have won numerous awards on both national and international levels including an EMMY Award for Outstanding Achievement in Music Composition. He is fluent with many indigenous instruments such as flute techniques associated with Peru, Native American Indian, Japanese Raku, and various world percussion. He also has extensive experience with both high end computer-based orchestration and live ensembles.
Charles composes and tours with a handmade "purple" baby grand piano (featured in "Keyboard Magazine"). Charles is a veteran performer and a seasoned composer. His music is often described as "epic" in nature and is widely used in documentaries and films around the globe.
