Reverie
author: A.C.
Dennis Parrish’s CD, Reverie, takes you on an emotional journey through the heart and soul from beginning to end. With the warm delicacy of the opening song, “Gwenette,” the listener is introduced to the simple beauty of discovering another soul. It is a beautiful song with a captivating melody. As the relationship progresses, so does song number two, “Dress.” With a steamy, illusion like feel, “Dress” creates a flirty vision of passion and a deeper sense of intimacy. It has an alluring vibe which draws you in emotionally. “She Came, She Loved, She Left,” has a whirlwind feel transporting you to a different phase in this story. It is a time and place where your mind is spinning with confusion. Could she really be slipping away? Your left pondering and hoping for things to come around. “Left On The Altar,” the hollow feeling of emptiness this song communicates just sweeps through your soul. There is a depth to this piece that whispers directly to your heart. “Awaking So Blue,” takes you yet to a different emotion all together. It lifts you out of the depth of your soul into a time where the feeling of numbness takes over your mind and body. The one you loved has gone. You can feel yourself just going through the motions to get through the day. It is as if you are in a tunnel of gray existence. “Soul In The 2nd Pew,” here Dennis creates a conversation filled with questions and answers through the instruments. It represents the friend who fills you in on the truth. With it’s revealing rhythm you can almost hear the conversation as clear as words. It moves with a steady beat just laying the information out, filling in all the blanks. Song number seven, “Disbelief,” combines the delicate and light reminiscing sounds of the original melody, “Gwenette” with hauntingly, dark overshadows of disbelief. You can feel the storm rolling in as the musical overtones bring your hopes and anticipations to a screeching halt. “Bemused,” represents the feeling of just pure bewilderment. With every strum of the guitar you rewind and question how this information presented to you could possibly be true. Your heart aches for answers. “Scattered,” here you can feel thoughts being pulled in all different directions. Your emotions are torn as you try to make sense of this heartbreaking love story. Dennis uses intrinsic finger picking technique and skill to allow the listener to hear and feel each piece of the puzzle being put into place. “Rapt,” this song transports you to another dimension as you feel yourself being absorbed into reflection and thought. The final song “Gwenette,” is performed in a reprise steel string version. This song returns with closure. However, this time around, the warm, glowing affection has left. You can feel from the steel sting guitar the bare and simple conclusion to this tender human journey.
Dennis Parrish combines amazing talent with heart and soul to create a beautiful instrumental story of love, emotion and hope in Reverie.
