Album Notes

Denny has been in and around the music scene since 1970, as a singer, songwriter and guitarist. Working as a song writer for various artists Denny now records his own solo albums. These are a rarity only being sold by mail and at gigs. The first "Bless Tupelo", was recorded in 1990 on vinyl, sold out of it's original 1,000 pressings and has since been transferred to cd. It features 13 original songs and has long time pal Geoff Whitehorn guesting on guitar. An album recorded live in the studio, reminiscent of early Fleetwood Mac, and British electric blues. After a live broadcast on London's GLR radio, presenter Mary Costello described Denny as "the best kept secret in British blues".
In 1995 Denny recorded his next album,"Noah's Great Rainbow". Tired of the normal 'my woman left me and I'm broke' blues lyrics, he noted that blues was everywhere, in all of us for different reasons, "you don't have to come from the delta, or chicago to feel blues". The songs penned are about his own experiences, ie, house reposession, taxes systems, and why modern youth has become so ignorant of it's own history. Of course, there's the odd 'I love my girl' song to cheer things up, but if you like English style guitar and dylanesque lyrics, give this one a whirl. In the ten tracks here there's "a world of emotion that just keeps turning", "intense guitar", and "blues poetry", to pull out some radio quotes from various sources.
Denny's third album 'SLEEPWALKING WITH YOU' is now finished and available from cd baby or from Denny's own site, it features 10 original songs, and the inclusion of Max Middleton on keys has given Denny's songwriting another dimension, with Scott Newman, bass, and Jeff Allen, drums, an excellent permanent band has taken shape.
"We're very pleased with this one, having Jeff and Max around has opened the whole thing up, their wealth of experience in working with John Martyn, and Max with Jeff Beck, Chris Rea, Kate Bush etc etc really lets the songs develop, they change at every gig" It's selling well at gigs, but needs our cd baby connection to push it more, buy! buy! buy!

First Class British Blues
author: Geoff
If you like Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac, any era John Mayall or Snowy White then this CD is for you. There is a wide variety in the songs, all self-penned by Denny. Playing is top class throughout. The rhythm section, comprising the excellent John Lingwood and Scott Newman, play as tight as it gets, really underpinning the songs, perfectly complimented by Hilary Brigg's keyboard playing, all topped off with superb singing and guitar playing from Denny. Audition the CD Baby sampler tracks and if you like what you hear buy the CD, it gets even better the more you listen to it.

Superior Brit Blues, Excellent Compositions
author: Mike Flowerday
Many latter day blues players are content to rehash those fine old blues songs, but Denny Newman's a lot more enterprising. As with all his albums, this is an impressive collection of self-penned compositions. The vocals are well-executed, in a surprisingly authentic and expressive voice, and the guitar is excellent, creative but not show-boating. The band is first rate, with Scotty on bass and drummer John Lingwood right in the pocket throughout. These guys are good live, and this album represents their work well.
