Album Notes

A delightful fusing of rock, country, & pop, the sound of Derby Lane would better fill the air of a California mid-day than the quiet Southern Maryland towns the members of the band call home. Led by vocalist/songwriter Jeremy Mohler and his seemingly effortless midrange flow, the band turns out thoroughly orchestrated attempts at classic sounding pop songs with ease. The melodies provided by guitarist Nathan O’dell’s smooth leads and occasional multi-instrument spasms bounce back and forth with Mohler’s not-overly-infectious-yet-still-contagious storytelling. Rounded out by bassist Trey Gibson, drummer Dusty Morris, and percussionist Joshua Davis, the band draws from an eclectic range of influences, but ironically nothing from the nation’s capitol city, only a 30 minute drive away: “We’re not cool enough to be from DC. So many bands from around here claim to be from the city because it’s familiar to people throughout the country. DC actually scares me a little.” - Mohler

A revolving door of members in the rhythm section has left its mark on previous efforts, but the band’s latest disc, Travel, touches on the natural song writing skills and pop sensibility the band obviously cherishes.

"Derby Lane have a lot of nice elements going for them. I like this Northern Pikes meets Elliot Smith Indie rock feel with a band that are trying hard to do something cool." - www.c0ncensus.com
