"Painted Memories" is an appealing step up from the successful debut album, "Remembering Tomorrow." The maturity and growth is obvious not only vocally and instrumentally, but musically. The record explores a variety of genres that tentatively fall under the smooth blend of pop, rock, and jazz. From the hip hop beats of "A Beautiful Affair" to the latin samba of "Catnap," this is an album that has something for everyone.
"There is an element of space to this record that makes it a lot more representative of who I'm becoming as a songwriter and a musician. Each song has its own way of breathing, of telling its own story. The downfall of a lot of music in the singer/songwriter genre is the redundant and encumbered nature of being tied to a chord progression on a guitar. I was able to hear in my head that each piece of the puzzle had its own purpose; I could hear lush piano chords giving fuel to a bass line, accented by a horn section and strung together by a guitar part. In that sense, I ended up singing over the top of entire pieces of music, instead of some guitar chords. The depth of the music and the diversity of styles definitely reflects the growing up I've done as a writer. I mean, how many guys write a song about their cat and get people to think it's a love song?"
From the groovy fast-paced funk of "Love For The First Time" to the romantic orchestrations of the tender ballad "A Movie Scene," this album will leave you glad that you "chose the skinny boy with the voice."

This kid's a piece of modern day art. He'll knock the shoes off your feet as you begin to dance in your own kitchen! The music is upbeat, and calming within each other. From a lyrical stand, it's amazing! I recommend any aspiring artist to listen to him, and keep on going for your dreams. He has certainly helped me pursue my own; after thinking it wouldn't be as possible for me to accomplish. Thanks Derik!
