For Home EP is comprised of original songs I wrote during the fall of 2011, co-arranged with Nick Leonard. They are expressions of a challenging transitional period in my life, when I moved from my home in Northern California to New York City. Being in New York had me living within my mind and memories rather than the city itself. I defined New York as a place of eternal mourning, where everyone was subconsciously attending the funeral of the ground. The city and the subways had done to the ground what the ground does to everything else that has faced death: buried it. It is a morbid thought. However, from it I began composing and recording songs in the stairwell of my college dorm. These songs transported me to land, and kept me grounded throughout my time in New York City. They are stories of Vision Quests, sleeping on Mt. Tam, east coast weather, and overcoming troubles. All songs, excluding This World (an at home recording by Brad Dollar), and Pier (recorded by Nick Leonard, in my bathroom funny enough) were recorded live at Bob Weir's TRI Studios, engineered by Rick Vargas and Brad Dollar, and mastered by Brad Dollar. These songs were written as lights of whole realness, and the beauty of what is raw. By recording live, we were able to capture the essence their meaning. A special thanks to these folks and their families: Nick Leonard, Jonathan Mei, Lila Rose Frisher, Gabe Beaudoin, Henry Kinder, James Coyne, Lawrence McDonald, Rick E Miller, Rick Vargas, Brad Dollar, Anne & Paul Wattis; and a big thanks to Bob Weir & TRI Studios!
