The Desoto Street Band is a New Orleans based acoustic roots group. All members live and work in New Orleans. The band plays mostly original songs which they refer to as Orleansicana Music. Americana with a New Orleans flavor. Think of it as a really good Gumbo!
BAND MEMBERS:
Steve Wulff: guitar, harmonica, and vocals
Laurie Dawes: guitar, djembe, washboard, kazoo, and vocals
Frank Cole: acoustic upright bass, vocals
Robert Eustis: guitar, mandolin, acoustic lap guitar, slide guitar, bouzouki, vocals
RECORDINGS:
Three of the Band’s original tunes were featured on Katrina Kapers, a CD produced by the Tipitina’s Foundation. The CD raised money to buy replacement instruments for those lost in the storm.
The band's first CD now available is a recording original material. The CD was recorded in New Orleans at Mike Harvey’s NOLA Recording Studio.
ORIGINAL SONGS include:
“My Town” a plaintive look at life, and the lack thereof, during the period just after Katrina.
“Easy Moments” an instrumental creating just what the title suggests.
“TV News Junkie” a lighthearted song focusing on an unusual addiction.
“Desoto Street” The Street for which the band is named located near the Fairgrounds. The tune includes references to Jazz Fest, “Last in April, first in May”
The Band also covers blues gems like Broke Down Engine (“Blind” Willie McTell’), and “Hesitation Blues”.
