Melodious, very good vocals, piano and guitar work.

The first album was very good. Did Desperate Measures just get lucky with that? I usually look to an artist's second album for a true indication of staying power. If True Confessions is any indication of the path these guys are on, I'm definitely along for the ride!
In general, there were alot of great melodies, lead and background vocals punctuated by awesome piano and guitar work - including some refreshing lead guitar work. Here are some specific observations per song...
Inspiration: Hit potential. Love the horns. Tasty background vocals.
The Portrait: Great ballad. I can't get enough of it.
Say Goodbye: Great lead vocals. Simple but effective background vocals. Also high hit potential.
On the Way: Maybe it's just me. I hear a little bit of CSN, America, Simon & Garfunkel and James Taylor.
Last of It: Noticeable Joe Jackson influence.
True Confessions: Gets better with every listen. Insightful lyrics sung with smoothness and a hint of raw punctuated by very tasty guitar and piano interplay.
Yes, I like this CD even better than the first.
