In style they dub "acoustic alternative", the Determined Luddites, hailing from the desert environs of Tucson, AZ, play a potent mix of traditional fiddle tunes, Mexican music, blues, jazz, Celtic, Caribbean and punk, sometimes all in the same song. Based on the twin mandolin sound of Dan Davis and Mark Roberton-Tessi, the D-28 flatpicking of Dan Hostetler, and Jenny Robertson-Tessi's Luddite thunk on the bass, the Luddites combine originals, obscure Americana, and classic chestnuts of traditional and swing music in unusual and exciting combinations. Fixtures on the Tucson acoustic music scene, they all switch off on a variety of instruments, including fiddle, banjo, harmonica, lap steel, bodhran, pennywhistle, and bouzouki. Their first CD, "Better Luck Yesterday..." was released in January , 2003. Of their debut, Roselady, host of Espresso Swing on KXCI 91.3 fm, says "...melding together orginal material with tradition folk tunes, the Determined Luddites pour out toe-tapping riffs, finger-snapping licks, and jazzy swing. They are as comfortable as an old pair of jean."
