Deviants of Reality Are Something More Than The Norm
author: NBC NEWS
Harking back to a time when Hip Hop wasn't as commercially viable as it is today, Deviants of Reality bring something new to the table by bringing back the past. Their second album, Love, Sex, and Situation is like the greatest album that Dr. Dre and Outkast never recorded.
Love, Sex, and Situation sounds like its straight out of 1992 but with the edge and thought that Outkast put into their rhymes. The deviants do a good job of mixing the two elements into something that for the most part is better than most of the junk clogging the airwaves right now. DJ Alex J and U Dig The Mental clearly have a knack for being original and Love, Sex, and Situation is a showcase for that originality.
The group has a sense of humor as well as a sense of awareness and aren't afraid to show those elements off. From the rather risque "Love Line," skits to the conscious vibes of, "Perfect World," the Deviants of Reality are just something more than another Hip Hop group. Sure most of their rhymes are about girls, but as the liner notes say Love, Sex, and Situation is an album "Of our views of women and the complexity of the relationships with them; with a touch of humor of course."
They're honest, talented, and original; truly something rare today in the Hip Hop community. Sometimes you can't judge a book by its cover but in Deviants of Reality case, that judgement would be justified. They're different and good and Love, Sex, and Situation is a great listen of laid back classic sounding Hip Hop.

feels like a second coming of Tribe...a hip-hop classic
author: Sama'an Ashrawi-CyFair-Reporter(college mag)
Some artists hire great producers, but can't match up their poor lyrics with the all-star beats (e.g. 50 Cent, Lil Jon), others flop because they think lyrics alone can carry them (e.g. Grafh, Canibus), but the duo, Deviants of Reality, out of Red Bank, New Jersey do not disappoint you on either side of the spectrum. Their superb abillity with words is matched beautifully with the beats provided by rapper/producer DJ Alex J.
I have not heard such mastery of music in years. Just when i thought hip-hop was drowning in club albums focused on sex, drugs and violence, the Deviants of Reality tossed it a rope and pulled it out of the quicksand. It feels like a second-coming of A Tribe Called Quest, The Roots, or De La Soul, but it's not, this group, though similar sounding, have their own unique vibe.A true hip-hop classic in every sense of the phrase, it is an album your ears will thank you for allowing them to hear. mark my words, this is 2006's album of the year

“Love,Sex,and Situations” is a unique blend..catchy hooks and creative rhymes
author: SOUTHEAST SCENE-ORLANDO NIGHTLIFE
“Love, Sex, and Situations” is a unique blend of sounds lasting just over 50 minutes over 17 tracks and a special bonus track that brings more to the table than you can imagine. From beginning to end you find yourself unconsciously singing along to the slew of catch phrases and creative rhymes. The one thing that stuck out to us the most was the lyrical content. In the genre that The Deviants of Reality are currently in, it is common for an artist to brag about his “bling-bling”, hoes, the “b” word, or how much juice they can drink, however; the Deviants of Reality harp less about the materialistic and spend more time focusing on real life situations with honest and true lyrics.
