Album Notes

Please visit de Vie's myspace page at http://www.myspace.com/yourdeVie .

de Vie graduated from Harvard College in 1999 with an AB in Music. There she focused on performance and composition. Now she has decided to devote her entire existence to the purpose of music.

Her CD "horse on the shore demos" is a full-length CD. It was recorded and mixed with Craig Schumacher at Wavelab Studio in Tucson, Arizona. All music and lyrics were composed and performed by de Vie. Tracks 1-6 and 8-13 are voice and piano, and tracks 7 & 14 are voice and mbira dza vadzimu. (The piano in the recording was a Hardman baby grand; the mbira in track 7 was made by Andrew Cox; the mbira in track 14 was made by Fradreck Mujuru.)

Her full name (given by her mother at birth) is "Fleur de Vie Weinstock" which means "flower of life growing next to a grapevine."

She can be contacted at deVieMusic[at]yahoo[dot]com or (520) 505-9005.

The lyrics for all tracks can be found at http://www.deVieMusic.com .

Here are the lyrics for track 1:

. . . . . . . . {track 1} - Spent Forever

How long are you going to wait for Someday?
Someday, it will all fade away.
But the vision still remains.
I spent forever looking for Someday.
So much has changed,
but someday never came,
and the vision still remains.
I look out at your world, and all I see is pain.
"Someday" will never be the same,
but the vision still remains.

How long are you going to wait for Someday?
Someday ... it will all fade away.
But the vision still remains.

Moving, hauntingly beautiful.

Some of the things I thought about de Vie's CD: de Vie has one of the most original voices I have heard. Incredible lyrics... moving, hauntingly beautiful. Both the voice and the words make the listener feel the emotion invoked in the music. Very creative music and de Vie is very gifted to be able to write her own music, own lyrics and both play and sing as well! I think that anyone listening can relate to the lyrics on these songs because they are very sensitive and have great depth to them. de Vie's CD is a very unique and special piece of art and music fused as one. Thanks for sharing it.

It's great to hear such a collection of influences in one place--seems like you've done a lot of listening to a lot of people. I'm particularly enchanted by the mbira, which sounds great.
