Album Notes

THE DEVIL'S OWN: Piss Pissedoffherson (main mouth, white boy rhythm guitar), Lightnin' Rob (electrifying electric lead guitar), Pedro "Petey" Barbone (low end bass guitar and matching backing mouth) and Gentleman Smith (thumps, thwacks, crashes, bangs, booms and wallops).

"Everything Is Broken Always" is the debut full-length CD from the San
Francisco based Countrified Rock band, The Devil's Own. It was recorded
in Portland, Oregon at It's Cold, It Stinks and I Don't Like the Way It
Sounds Studio by Handsome Jon Burbank (of I Can Lick Any Sonofabitch In
the House) during the waning days of January, 2004. Mean motherfucking
blues harp was provided by David Lipkind (also of Sonofabitch fame). He
is owed a life-time of cigarettes to suck on for all the blowing he
gave. It was released by the PASS-A-FIST! Recording Corporation in
September, 2004.

THE SONGS: Musically, the songs don't stray much off the paths that
have already been beaten. But, like some bands, The Devil's Own adds their
own character to the mix. You can call it Drunk Rock, Punked Up
Country, Alternative Country, Honky-Skronk! or whatever your scope of
reference, be it limited or expansive, is... It's really just 200 Proof
Unapologetic Rock'n'Motherfuckin'Roll.

Lyrically, the songs tend to lean on the same themes that many Country
songs do... Women and drinkin' and smokin' and drinkin' and barroom
brawlin' and drinkin', et al... But, it's the scenery between the bedroom
and the bar and all the blood lost in-between that differs from the
songs of other likeminded bands. The wordsmithing of Piss Pissedoffherson
is almost completely unchartered territory in that it blends actual
gone-downs with an unfiltered cunnilinguistic approach that in other cases
may come off as too direct or too ambiguous. You may not know her real
name but, chances are you've known her all your life if she isn't there
anymore. Raise your Molotov Cocktail in a toast and praise the
Satanarchistic deliverance of The Devil's Own."

Shit Fucking Frances!
author: Jara Hoyt, Pinache Magazine
Shit fucking Frances! When the fuck did The Devil's Own get all rockin'? Have I been on some terrible whiskey bender for awhile? I guess that can't be the case, cause if I was on a tear I would most likely run into lead singer, Piss Pissedoffherson and, cash on the barrel head, he would be in worse shape than me. What the fuck, Piss? (if that is your real name). Did you finally get up off your ass or are you rocking thi shard in a fucking chair? Questions, questions, questions... Everything Is Broken Always is cantankerous, filthy honky tonk. Think Old 97s first couple of albums before Rhett Miller castrated the whole fucking band.

Whiskey drenched, guitar swinging, outlaw country.
author: Mark Lawrence ~ Audio Meatus
Heavy as a night ride head-on into the impending doom of heavy drinking and dark deeds, The Devil’s Own debut album is a viscus stew of outlaw country with a fist full of high octane rock’n’roll. Fronted with the rough voice of Piss Pissedoffherson, singing songs ranging from the country sway of "Because of Catherine" to the building rebellion of "Shut Up, Drink Up, Fuck Up and Go!" These are honest tunes, naked as though dragged ragged over a hundred miles of desert highways. A wonderful first, this record highlights awesome song writing and proficient musical strength. Most of the songs feel like classic Johnny Paycheck and David Allen Coe in the midst of a amphetamine and whiskey rage. "Playing Dumb," is a perfect example of the true jewels scattered throughout the 13 tracks of this CD, with its dynamic guitar from Lightnin’ Rob that is arresting to the ear and yet functional in filling the boundaries of the song with a robust presence. Contributing to the great sound of this album is the harp of David Lipkind from band-friends I Can Lick Any Sonofabitch in the House blowing his signature bluesy lines that cry, holler and curse like a devil in a dry wind. Mixing somber earth-cracked country with hard sun-bleached-asphalt rock, this album speaks well to the whiskey drenched souls of those haunted by the white lines of the open road and the long west leaning shadows of Joshua Trees.
