Devine Lie flex their creative muscle on their debut album, Devine Lies. Diverse, and thought provoking, this is a good selection of alternative rock songs with some haunting hooks; unusually many of Devine Lie’s lyrics actually mean something.
Anchored by a solid rhythm section, Devine Lie play a mixture of instruments to catch the mood of the song and to sculpt descriptive soundscapes – from haunting pipes to illuminate the song Dromoland, which was written in the grounds of ancient Dromoland Castle in Ireland, to multi layered electric guitars on Barquentine’s Gasp, possibly the only song ever written about one of the characters from Mervyn Peake’s Titus Groan Gormenghast trilogy.
To really understand what Devine Lie are about, listen to the clips or better still buy the album.
