I was out to sea with the salty air eroding my dry desert thoughts.
And dolphins rose up from the liquid universe.
Smiling at the wind.
The waves rolled and tumbled at bay
Like tumble weed tumbling across the highway
And this is where songs come from
The trumpet player in Havana
That looked a little bit like Miles
Blowing notes into the air
For me to hear
And that’s where songs come from
Like Riding down the back roads
In a 1949 Cadillac
Fore in front, nine in the back
Sinking in to the back seat
Smiling out the window
At the rain and the sun.

I think Devon Alves is way beyond average, compaired to the indipendent solo artists/singer songwriters out there. Orignality, uniqe timeing, and soulful delivery is what I hear on "Four Directions".

Contemporary blues-based stories in National Steel vocabulary
author: DefianceRadio- Carolyn (aka dj Good)
Devon Alves’ first studio album shows not only the influence that classic blues artists have had on his songwriting, but “Four Directions” also debuts his own unique musical storytelling style. His potent lyrics send the senses on vacation- the songs conjure up the smell of catfish cookin’, rain on warm pavement, walking in the sunshine on a rocky mountain trail.
Devon’s fondness for his National steel guitar has lead him to eloquently bend some of the rules of the standard blues genre. The inspiration he has harvested by traveling around the Nation are enough to make listeners want to load up the dog in the truck and hit the proverbial road for a while.
“Four Directions” has a pleasing range of tunes… sentimental old-timey blues numbers are juxtaposed with Devon’s signature light-hearted reels that are guaranteed to make his listening audience smile.
