Album Notes

Dewey Erney's vocals can probably be most easily described as a throwback to an earlier tim when jazz-influenced singers sang in tune, had a pleasant sound, and interpreted the lyrics with an honest heartfelt emotion. That is not to say that his interpretations could be labeled "nostalgic" or old-fashioned. They are up-to-date renderings of great standards aided in no small way by the gorgeous arrangements of big-band genius, Tom Kubis.

A list of the wonderful musicians who participated in this recording assures the listener of music of the highest quality: Dewey Erney on vocals; Tom Kubis on saxophones; trumpeters, Wayne Bergeron, Stan Martin, and Ron Stout; trombonists, Andy Martin, Alex Iles, and Charlie Morallis; a rhythm section of Gerry Schroeder on piano, Luther Hughes on bass, and Kendall Kay on drums; a string section of the highest order and a new flutist on the scene, Kate Prestia-Schaub, all of who added greatly to the lushness on the ballads, and a lovely airy quality to the swing tunes.

Dewey Erney lists as his vocal influences Nat King Cole, a young (especially the Capitol years) Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan, Mel Torme, Mark Murphy, June Christy, Jeri Southern, and vocal groups, The Four Freshmen, The Hi-Lo's, Jackie and Roy, and The Singers Unlimited.

This is Dewey Erney's 13th CD, and all of them are available on CD Baby. Buy this album, you definitely won't regret it.
