‘Live At Steamers Jazz Club – Vol. 2

This ‘Live at Steamers, Volume 2 is a continuation of ‘Live at Steamers – recorded at the same concert on March 27, 2003. On the notes for the original CD, it was mentioned that there were 40+ minutes of additional music that couldn’t fit on Volume 1 because it already contained 67 minutes. Well here are those 40+ minutes. The music that was performed that night (with the exception of 3 songs) is all here in these 2 volumes of music. As was stated on the original recording, this music was all done that evening, no over-dubs, etc. It takes a group of very talented musicians to pull this off.

Dewey Erney’s vocals continue to amaze. His warmth and sense of phrasing and swing are once again apparent here. How many singers could pull this off without over-dubbing, etc. and make it? Not many! Gerry Schroeder’s pianistic skill and inventiveness, with his modern re-harmonizations on his accompaniment and solos, is a joy to experience. Jack Prather’s bass and Kendall Kay’s drums provide beautiful support in their accompaniment, and their solos are dazzling. Add to this one of the greats of modern, lyrical jazz trumpeters, Ron Stout, and you have, like Volume 1, the feeling of being present at this most swinging and lovely concert.
