Album Notes

What Is This Thing Called Love? (Standards of Excellence, Volume 8) displays the very formidable talents of vocalist Dewey Erney, pianist Gerry Schroeder, guitarist Ron Escheté, and on three of the selections, saxophonist Tom Kubis. Gerry performs with Dewey on eight of the selections and Ron is with Dewey on seven numbers.

This is primarily a ballad album of 15 of the best, most heart-rending songs in the Great American Songbook. These performances rival the greatest ballad recordings of all time. The melodies are clear, the intonation is impeccable, while the lyrics are delivered clearly and with such honesty that you'll feel like you're hearing these songs for the first time.

The instrumentalists perform with such harmonic creativity that you'll become aware that this is not merely vocals with accompaniment, but duets by superior musicians.

Do yourself a favor. Purchase this album. The genre which spawned Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole, The Hi-Lo's, Mel Tormé, Ella Fitzgerald, Peggy Lee, and other such musical giants is not dead. The proof is here.
