Album Notes

Meet Dewveall, made up of artists Jonathon and Melanie Dewveall from Houston, Texas.

The Story Goes a Little Like This…

Jonathon, who cut his musical teeth on the trumpet (don’t worry; he’s retained them all) eventually headed off to college on a voice scholarship and simultaneously picked up the guitar. Meanwhile, Melanie discovered the enigmatic orthodoxy of an organ’s melody at the tender age of seven, and before graduating college, had tamed the white and black keys of the piano.

So the two meet along the way, decide life might be better done together, and opt for post-marital Dewveallian bliss in the form of musical moonlighting all over Houston before landing in Nashville.

The Upshot…

A pop-folk, bluesy-acoustic rock and soul sound with leviathan Jonathon singing lead, lilliputian Mel breathing harmony. From the contemplative “Wait in the Water” to the lampoonish hype of “Like a Star” all the way back to wonder of “Gravity,” Dewveall is a two person - one voice accord that makes texture, grit, rasp and whisper sometimes sound like soul singer Norah Jones and sometimes going the way of the more rambunctious Black Crowes.

The two do the whole music scene because of the people they meet, because music, they believe, connects people and reminds them that they’re more alike than they are different.

“Our music explores what it means to be human,” Jonathon says. “Our songs, our lyrics, give us this chance to identify with experiences that belong to people everywhere. We really like that.”

All proceeds from Dewveall’s new release Water EP, are being donated to drill water wells in impoverished countries around the world.
