Album Notes

Born and raised in Birmingham, England of Jamaican parents, Julie Dexter is a world-renowned singer/songwriter who is at the forefront of the international Nu-Soul movement. A classically trained musician who writes, arranges, and produces, Julie has received numerous international awards and honors and is widely regarded as a musical prodigy.

Mentored by jazz pioneer Gary Crosby, Julie teamed up with members of the London jazz group Tomorrow's Warriors and later formed J-Life along with Jason Yarde. Julie was asked by the British Council to serve as one of Great Britain's official ambassador's of music with the award winning band J-life. They served as official envoys of the British Council from 1997-1999, touring Europe, Asia, Africa, and South America on a state-sponsored mission to promote goodwill among nations through music.

Although Julie has taken top-prize at the European Jazz Festival for her skills as a jazz-vocalist and is listed as a distinguished member of the Jazz community in The Rough Guide to Jazz, her musical palate includes, soul, drum n' bass, reggae, jazz, and funk. Consequently, she has collaborated with many of the world's most groundbreaking producers and musicians on various soul, jazz, acid jazz, and reggae albums, and has developed a fanbase that is truly universal.

Her new release, "Dexterity," features 5 different drummers and has been described as a cross between The Police and Roberta Flack.

Julie is a beautiful woman with a voice as sweet as molasses. I have long since been bored with mainstream music and long for more smooth, soulful music such as this. This is an excellent "grown folk" cd.

Julie Dexter is quite an artist. Her lyrics and her music takes this CD to a another level. She does a collaboration with Natasha Daya of Fertile Ground called Love, The song is so tight! The bass line is unreal! You dont know whether you want to sing Julie's part or Natasha's. My other favorites are Moving On and That's Living. Pick this CD up now! I also had an opportunity to help Julie out on background vocals to Love down Blues Alley in Feb 2003. I am also a part of The Ketch A Vibe Street Team Member, So pick up this CD from Julie, it's off the hook!!!

Julie is dropping her own style of soul, jazz, and reggae into the neo-soul mix of cookie cutter copy-cats. She is a true original, and soon to be a major star. No labels for Julie. . .she just expresses who and what she is honestly through a poppouri of styles. J. Scott Fugate
