Album Notes

For over three decades, Dennis DeYoung has been a singer, songwriter, keyboardist and founding member of the rock group Styx. The Chicago-based band originated in 1964 when 16-year-old DeYoung and brothers John and Chuck Panozzo joined forces in the garage of DeYoung's childhood home. Styx has sold over 30 million records and has scored ten Top Ten singles worldwide. It was the only band to ever record four consecutive triple platinum albums.

As a singer and songwriter, DeYoung has sung and written such rock classics as: 'Lady,' 'Come Sail Away,' 'Best of Times,' 'Mr. Roboto,' 'Show Me The Way,' 'The Grand Illusion,' 'Don't Let It End,' and People's Choice Award Winner 'Babe.' His singing talents have made his voice one of the most recognizable in the world. In addition to his work with Styx, DeYoung has recorded four solo albums including Desert Moon, whose title track achieved Top Ten status.

Deyoung's first venture on Broadway was starring as Pontius Pilate in the 25th anniversary production of Andrew Lloyd Webber's Jesus Christ Superstar. His performance earned a Joseph Jefferson Award nomination for best supporting actor in a musical. While performing in Superstar, DeYoung was approached by Atlantic Records to sing and produce ''Ten on Broadway,' a compilation of his favorite Broadway songs.

His passion for American musical theater and composers like George Gershwin and Lerner and Loew inspired him to write 'The Hunchback of Notre Dame,' a musical based on Victor Hugo's novel. This CD features a number of songs from his show.

In 2000, DeYoung and Academy Award winning film composer, Alan Silvertri rearranged and orchestrated DeYoung's song 'The Grand Illusion' with an 85 piece symphony orchestra and rock band for the IMAX film Siegfried and Roy: 'The Magic Box.' This orchestral concept influenced DeYoung to create a live concert retrospective of his career. By combining Styx's greatest hits, selections from The Hunback of Notre Dame and many Broadway favorites, he now performs with a 50-piece symphony orchestra and rock band.

Begining in 1996, many of the songs DeYoung wrote for Styx enjoyed a remarkable resurgence in popularity. 'The Best of Times,' 'Come Sail Away, and 'Babe,' were featured in Adams Sandler's hit film 'Big Daddy.' 'Come Sail Away,' was also a 'South Park' smash hit, featuring a six-minute version saung by Cartman and Isaac Hayes.

Recently, Volkswagen turned 'Mr. Roboto' into a hit national comnmercial featuring two Wayne's World Guys jamming to the words 'Domo Origato Mr. Roboto'. Universal Hippo Records has released a compilation of DeYoung's solo albums; 'Desert Moon', 'Back to the World', and 'Boomchild', entitled 'The Ultimate Collection'.

DeYoung's songs also have been featured in television shows and motion pictures: The Simpsons, Freaks and Geeks, Dharna and Gregg, E.R., Kings of Queens, Sex in the City, Detroit Rock City, Virgin Suicides Disney's Atlantis, Gold Member and many more.

Look for a double live CD with new tracks from DeYoung in the fall of 2003.

In my humble opinion, this musical is very reminiscent of and could be compared with any produced by ANDREW LLOYD WEBBER. It should be on the stage around the world. This is an excellent C.D. and I am so glad I finally managed to receive it from CDBABY.
